About Lou’s Place

Started in 1999 at a terrace in Kings Cross, Lou’s Place is a unique, community-based drop-in centre for women in crisis, feeling isolated or needing support. After 22 years in Kings Cross, we recently made the decision to move to a brand-new home in Redfern (click here for more info).

Most of the women who visit Lou’s Place have experienced multiple traumas in their lives and the majority are facing issues of homelessness, domestic violence, mental health or addiction.

Lou’s Place receives no core government funding and relies on the generous support of our friends, donors and corporate partners.

WHAT SETS US APART

We are a low barrier centre which means you can still be struggling with addiction and mental health issues and as long as you are safe to come into the house, you are welcomed at Lou’s. We meet clients where they are and work from there.

We work with all women for as long as they need help. There is no cut off date to your time at Lou’s. We work with women to address their underlying trauma so they can heal and rebuild their lives.

25 YEARS OF HELP

In the past 25 years Lou’s Place has helped over 175,000 clients. Each year our case managers assist with over 6,250 client referrals, counselling, advocacy, coordinating legal advice, and setting up appointments for physical and mental health issues. Our army of volunteers have cooked and served over 127,000 nutritious hot lunches which for many of our clients is the only meal they eat that day.
