Since opening this women’s refuge in April 1999, Lou’s has had roughly 31,500 visits.
- Roughly 90% of our clients come from a background of abuse – emotional, physical and/or sexual abuse.
- Roughly 70% of our clients are currently homeless or at risk of homelessness.
- Many come seeking legal assistance for issues to do with their children, some for immigration-related problems.
- Most have little if any family support.
- Some regulars have parents who visit and keep contact with staff.
- Some shower/launder at Lou’s prior to going back to sleep on the streets.
- Most very much look forward to the food; some rely on it.
- Many will not see a doctor or nurse other than on site; most will not see a male doctor at all
